The ESP8266 WiFi Module is a self contained SOC with integrated TCP/IP protocol stack that can give any microcontroller access to your WiFi network. The ESP8266 is capable of either hosting an application or offloading all Wi-Fi networking functions from another application processor. Each ESP8266 module comes pre-programmed with an AT command set firmware, meaning, you can simply hook this up to your Arduino device and get about as much WiFi-ability as a WiFi Shield offers (and that’s just out of the box)! Details:

Key/EN: It is used to bring Bluetooth module in AT commands mode. If Key/EN pin is set to high, then this module will work in command mode. Otherwise by default it is in data mode. The default baud rate of HC-05 in command mode is 38400bps and 9600 in data mode.

HC-05 module has two modes,
  • Data mode: Exchange of data between devices.
  • Command mode: It uses AT commands which are used to change setting of HC-05. To send these commands to module serial (USART) port is used.
  • VCC: Connect 5 V or 3.3 V to this Pin.
  • GND: Ground Pin of module.
  • TXD: Transmit Serial data (wirelessly received data by Bluetooth module transmitted out serially on TXD pin)
  • RXD: Receive data serially (received data will be transmitted wirelessly by Bluetooth module).
  • State: It tells whether module is connected or not.

This is a simple to use, USB to serial base unit for the Digi XBee line. This unit works with all XBee modules including the Series 1 and Series 2.5, standard and Pro version. Plug the unit into the XBee Explorer, attach a mini USB cable, and you will have direct access to the serial and programming pins on the X Bee unit. The highlight of this board is an FT231X USB-to-Serial converter. That’s what translates data between your computer and the XBee.

There’s also a reset button, and a voltage regulator to supply the XBee with plenty of power.
